Cancer - Threat to the life

During the twentieth century, death from infectious diseases have declined substantially in developed and developing countries because of modern medicines. With the incidence of infectious diseases reduced, Cancer has become one of the leading causes of suffering and death.

About one third of the people in developed countries suffer some form of cancer during their lives.

Research aimed at the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of cancer has been under way for decades. In recent years great strides have been made in understanding the molecular basis of cancer. This information is currently being used to develop more effective methods for the prevention, detection and treatment of cancer.

Brief intro to Cancer:

Cancer is a disease in which tumors arise invade tissues and spread throughout body. A tumor is a mass of cells that have lost the normal constraints over growth and division. The changes in the cells that causes tumors to form are called oncogensis. Most tumors are benign meaning that they remain localized to the tissue where they originated and do not invade the other tissue. Sometimes a benign tumor becomes malignant, meaning that its cells penetrate tissues adjacent to those where tumor originated. These tumors are often dangerous and life threating. Cells in the malignant tumor often lose their cell to cell adhesion and break free from tumor. If these cells enter the circulatory or lymphatic system a process called metastasis.

According to Word Health Organization - “There will be more than fifteen million new cases of cancer every year by 2020.”

Classification of Cancer:

Carcinoma: This is the most common cancer derived from epithelial cells, mainly develops in the aged and grows in breast, prostate, lung, pancreas and colon.

Sarcoma: Affecting bone, cartilage, fat and nerve, it arises from connective tissue and originates in mesenchymal cells outside the bone marrow.

Lymphoma and leukemia: Arise from hematopoietic (blood-forming) cells.

Germ cell tumor: Develops in the testicle or the ovary (seminoma and dysgerminoma) and arise from pluripotent cells.

Blastoma: This is common cancer develop in children derived from immature "precursor" cells or embryonic tissue.

Causes of Cancer:

In common, many researchers divide the causes of cancer into two different groups-

  1. In its environment cause, it develops through common environmental factors including tobacco use, poor diet and obesity, radiation, infection, lack of physical activity and environmental pollutants.

  2. Genetic cause, it develops through the abnormality in the regulatory genes.

In general, the most common types of cancer area includes Breast, Prostate, Lung and Bronchus, Urinary Bladder, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, colon and Rectum , Melanomas of the Skin, Kidney and Renal Pelvis, Ovary and Oral Cavity and Pharynx (Head & Neck).

Mainly cancer symptoms are very different and depend on the area or organ where it is located and how big the tumor is. But commonly, these symptoms can be seen in a cancer patient -

  1. Persistent Fatigue

  2. Unintentional Weight Loss

  3. Pain in various parts of the body making that part cancer prone.

  4. Fever

  5. Bowel Changes

  6. Chronic Cough

Prevention of Cancer:

Depending on the type, stage, age, health status and other personal characteristics, cancer can be treated under high-professional medical professionals. It can be treated under following category-

  1. Surgery

5.Hormone therapy

6.Gene therapy

  1. Dendritic Cell therapy

There was a time when there is no cure available for this frightening disease but today, many cancers are curable and many are treatable ever before in history.

But, in this fast-pace life it is very important to keep yourself away from stress and live healthy lifestyle with good food habit. It is a fact and seen in Japan also that, where the lifestyle and food habit is good then the disease like cancer dare to occur. The people of Japan harvest maximum number of green tea and as a result there is a lowest cancer rate.
